Arctic Adventures and Nordic Calm
Finland offers an enchanting escape into the quiet beauty of the North. Whether you’re chasing the Northern Lights in Lapland or unwinding in a lakeside sauna under the midnight sun, this is a country that balances serene nature with surprising adventure.
In winter, glide through snow-covered forests on a husky sled, sleep in a glass igloo beneath starry skies, or visit Santa’s Village near the Arctic Circle. Summer brings long daylight hours, warm swims in forest lakes, and coastal islands perfect for kayaking and cycling.
Helsinki offers a modern contrast with cutting-edge design, cool cafés and open-air markets. From here, ferries connect you to the charming Åland archipelago or across the Gulf of Finland to Tallinn for a seamless twin-city break.
Finland is ideal for couples, families and solo travellers seeking peace, space and authentic experiences. With Nexus Travel, your Finnish escape is customised to your preferences, whether you're after arctic adventures, cultural city stays or a wellness-focused retreat.

Entry Requirements
UK travellers can visit Finland for up to 90 days in a 180-day period without a visa. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your departure date.
Best Time to Visit
Visit in winter for Northern Lights, husky safaris, and snow adventures, or in summer for long daylight hours, lake swimming, and midsummer festivals. Spring and autumn are peaceful shoulder seasons.
Vaccinations
No vaccines are required for entry. Routine vaccinations like Tetanus, MMR, and Hepatitis A should be up to date. Tick precautions are advised in rural areas during warmer months.
Currency
Finland uses the Euro (EUR). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, even for small purchases. Mobile payments such as Apple Pay and Google Pay are also common.
Language
Finnish and Swedish are the official languages. English is widely spoken in cities, hotels, and tourist areas. Finns appreciate polite greetings and clear communication.
Electricity
Finland uses 230V power and standard European Type C and F plugs. UK travellers will need an adaptor. Electricity is reliable even in remote regions.
Lapland
Meet Santa in Rovaniemi, ride through snowy forests on a reindeer or husky sleigh, and watch the Northern Lights dance across the sky in this magical winter destination.
Helsinki
The capital combines Nordic design, coastal charm, and innovative cuisine. Visit the Helsinki Cathedral, Design District, and waterfront saunas for a taste of modern Finnish culture.
Lakeland
With thousands of lakes and forests, this region is perfect for canoeing, cycling, and unwinding in lakeside saunas. Rent a cottage and enjoy peaceful summer days in nature.
Turku Archipelago
Explore the coastal islands by bike or boat. The Archipelago Trail offers a scenic route through small villages, maritime history, and traditional Finnish hospitality.
Koli National Park
One of Finland’s most iconic natural landscapes, Koli offers forest trails, lake views, and panoramic lookouts. A haven for hikers, photographers, and anyone seeking serenity.
Porvoo
One of Finland’s oldest towns, Porvoo charms with cobbled streets, colourful wooden houses, artisan shops, and riverside cafés. A perfect day trip from Helsinki.
Getting Around
Finland’s public transport is efficient and modern. Use trains for longer journeys, trams and buses in cities, and domestic flights or rental cars for exploring Lapland and remote regions.
Weather & Clothing
Winter temperatures can drop well below freezing, so pack thermal layers, waterproof boots, and insulated outerwear. Summers are mild and pleasant with long daylight hours.
Sauna Etiquette
Saunas are central to Finnish culture. They are often nude, single-gender or mixed, and usually followed by a cold plunge or swim. Respect quiet and personal space inside the sauna.
Cost of Travel
Finland is relatively expensive. Plan ahead with budget-friendly transport passes, self-catering accommodation, or city cards that include attractions and public transport.
Local Customs
Finns value privacy, punctuality, and honesty. Small talk is minimal, but hospitality is genuine. Say “kiitos” to thank someone and follow local rules, especially in nature reserves.
Sustainable Choices
Finland is a leader in sustainability. Drink tap water, take public transport, stay in eco-certified hotels, and support local makers and slow food initiatives.
Land of a Thousand Lakes
Finland is home to over 180,000 lakes and more than 70 percent of the country is covered in forest, making it one of Europe’s greenest destinations.
Midnight Sun & Polar Night
In summer, the sun doesn’t set above the Arctic Circle for weeks. In winter, Lapland experiences the polar night, where darkness creates ideal conditions for aurora sightings.
World’s Happiest Country
Finland consistently ranks at the top of the World Happiness Report, thanks to its strong education system, clean environment, and high quality of life.
Sauna Capital
There are over 3 million saunas in Finland for a population of just over 5 million. From city apartments to lake cabins, they are an essential part of life.
Design & Architecture
Finland is famous for its minimalist design and modern architecture. Visit the Alvar Aalto Museum and browse boutiques in Helsinki’s Design District.
Wildlife
Keep an eye out for bears, wolves, lynx, and reindeer. Finland’s wild nature offers exceptional wildlife watching and birding opportunities, especially in Lapland and the east.
